Is the church the center of evangelism? In this week’s Discipleship Hour, Pastor Brakhage contrasts the Greeks who came seeking Jesus in John 12 with Jesus’ call to “go and make disciples,” and asks what happens when we expect the lost to come to us. With help from a short video by Pastor Matt Peoples, the class weighs the strengths and blind spots of a “magnet model” of ministry that relies on getting people inside the church doors. Pastor Brakhage then walks through Luke 10, where Jesus sends out the 72 two by two and asks the ones who are sent, not the ones who hear, to adapt. The class closes with the reminder that our joy isn’t in the results, but that our names are written in heaven.
