Newest Ministry at HTLC …. Cooks Night Out is a program which offers a meal, fellowship, and prayer to anyone who might have a need. Currently, two churches in Edmond currently offer a “Cooks Night Out”. First Presbyterian sponsors the 2nd Friday of each month and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church sponsors the 4th Friday of each month. and Holy Trinity will be sponsoring the 1st Friday night of each month. Dinner would be served from 5:00 to 6:30 PM with takeout also available.
The demographics of those reached through the program vary from church to church, but a large majority is senior citizens trying to stretch their dollars. The remainder are families experiencing hard times, single moms or single dads, and homeless. I know here in Edmond we don’t like to think we have homeless. Homeless doesn’t necessarily mean they are on the streets. Some fall into this category because they simply do not presently have a home for one reason or another.
Holy Trinity has truly been blessed. Not only with its growth over the last few years, but in the number of willing volunteers. As this ministry kicks off, we ask that you prayerful consider getting involved and helping put HTLC’s mission statement into action. Your time commitment would be about two hours each month.
Sign-up sheets will be available in the entry way where you can sign up for where you have a desire to serve. In an effort to provide folks with the taste of home, we will be asking those individuals who love to cook to help provide the desserts.
HTLC’s first “Cook’s Night Out” was held January 6th and was a huge success. We served approximately eighty-five individuals from our community. The overwhelming response from those attending was gratitude that our church chose to participate by sponsoring the first Friday of the month. To all those who helped in so many ways, a big thank-you for letting the love of Christ fill the evening.
A big part of this ministry is the one-on-one ministry. Taking time to sit and visit with the individuals and listening for ministry opportunities. Many of the seniors are lonely and in need of a friendly conversation. There are other opportunities as well. We can also use help in the kitchen, setting up, providing a dessert, and of course cleaning up.
If this sounds like your calling, it’s not too late. Our next “Cook’s Night Out” is Friday evening, February 3rd from 5:00 – 6:30 PM.
