The final countdown to Christmas is upon us! These days move forward so slowly for a child, and so quickly for an adult. These countdown days may suck the joy out of Christmas for some people and work to overwhelm them. It’s an easy trap in which to fall: we set high expectations for Christmas then we frantically struggle to meet those expectations. We strive to please the people in our life with perfect gifts, perfect decorations, and perfect celebrations. When imperfect sinners strive for perfection the result is always stress, a lot of stress. This striving works to shift our vision off the main focus of Christmas: Jesus! And a Christmas without Jesus at the center is one that no longer impacts the lives of those we love. In fact, a Christmas not centered on Jesus is no Christmas at all.
THE PERFECT GIFT! No matter how much we search for the perfect Christmas gift, the Word of God reminds us that we have already received it. And, of course, that gift is Jesus. And realizing this wonderful truth enables us to refocus and even put the brakes on our frantic search for perfect material gifts. The Scripture reminds us:
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights… He chose to give us birth through the Word of truth…” (James 1:17-18)
"...when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons." (Galatians 4:4-5)
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
GIFTS GALORE! Through the Perfect Gift – JESUS - you have been given gifts galore: saving grace, forgiveness of sins, life, salvation, peace, hope, joy, strength for life and confidence in death. What more could your heart desire than that which God has already given you? People will always disappoint you, and, in turn, you will always disappoint other people. You will never find the perfect gift on this side of eternity. That's a consequence of your sinful human nature. But God will never disappoint you! He knows just what you need for Christmas.... for every day.... and for eternity!
And He has given Him to you!
For a Christ-filled Christmas!
